Search Ranking in 2023

As growth strategies get underway for 2023, it’s wise to check-in on what changes Google’s team have made to their ranking algorithm that determines where your site ranks in search results.

If you are creating content regularly and you’re not applying an SEO-led approach to content creation, now is the time to change tact. First Page Sage do a report every year on some of the changes and these are a few that are really worth while paying some attention to.

  • Trustworthiness is a new factor that accounts for 5% - putting a focus on content creator’s abilities to back up what they say…citations will be favoured.

  • Publishing engaging and useful content is still king – accounting for 24%. As a general rule – the algorithm looks for high quality content published at least twice per week.

  • Being a niche expert in something matters a whopping 14%. So think about what you want your brand to be known for. Get specific – is it a particular segment in sustainability in a particular industry?  Start making your mark with those point of views and how tos...

  • While things like your keywords in meta titles and page speed account for 1% and 3% respectively, if you don’t tackle them – Google will disproportionately penalise your site for falling below a minimum threshold.

  • Mobile visitors are expected to be the primary target of your web design. It’s no longer enough to be “mobile friendly”.
