How to Optimise Your Marketing Workflow with AI: A Guide to Google’s NotebookLM

When it comes to AI tools, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the choices. While ChatGPT and Perplexity AI are great at conversational deep dives and research, Google’s NotebookLM offers something a little different for marketers and creators.

In this post, I’ll introduce you to NotebookLM and share some practical tips to help you get the most out of it.

What is NotebookLM?

NotebookLM is an AI tool designed to make interacting with your content more intuitive and efficient. Currently in beta, it lets you upload different types of content like PDFs, audio files, text documents, and even website links. Once your sources are in, NotebookLM does the heavy lifting – summarising the content, pulling out key themes, and generating useful insights.

Another distinguishing feature is its ability to read and summarise YouTube transcripts simply by copying and pasting the YouTube video link.  This makes it possible to dissect key insights from videos without the hours spent manually watching them.

How Can Marketers Use NotebookLM?

As marketers, we’re constantly juggling a lot of tasks – from researching to strategising and creating content. These are some of the ways I think NotebookLM can step in and help you optimise these tasks:

  • Summarise Key Takeaways: Say goodbye to hours of sifting through reports. NotebookLM can provide concise summaries so you can spend more time on analysis and decision-making.

  • Create Content: I’ve had good success using NotebookLM to help me create YouTube descriptions by sharing an MP3 file of the video I wanted to write a description for, my website URL and a web article on best practice for writing YouTube descriptions.

  • Develop Channel Strategies: A client I worked with wanted to build their presence on Instagram with limited resources. I created a Notebook that acts as an assistant to help them with their Instagram posting strategies using a mix of sources that included YouTube videos on Instagram’s algorithm, source content that explained their business and objectives, a web article that listed the top micro-influencers in Ireland, and a curated list of web articles that shares best practice for businesses using Instagram. The result was an on-demand assistant that they can turn to that gives them brilliant ideas for content to help them build their audience.

  • Identify Trends and Patterns: Whether you’re exploring new markets or tracking consumer preferences, NotebookLM can highlight key trends and behaviours in your data, giving you a clearer picture of what’s happening.

  • Brainstorm Content Ideas and Tactics: Stuck on new campaign ideas? You can ask NotebookLM to suggest concepts based on the latest research or market data that you direct it to.

  • Create Custom Podcasts: Yes, you read that right. You can even create AI-generated audio overviews to listen on the go, making it easy to stay informed when you’re commuting or between meetings.

Why Should You Care?

If you’re looking to save time, uncover insights faster, and generate better ideas, NotebookLM could be a powerful tool for your team. With the right approach, you can use this tool to:

  • Boost productivity: Free up hours of reading and researching.

  • Gain deeper insights: Spot hidden trends and understand your market better.

  • Stay ahead of the curve: Use AI to keep up with industry shifts and emerging best practices.

AI is already reshaping the way we work, and I’m excited to see how tools like NotebookLM can help marketing teams innovate and grow.
